The prevalence of obesity varies among different racial groups. While obesity is apparent in no more than 30% of Chinese and Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes, it is present in 60–80% of North Americans, Europeans, or Africans with type 2 diabetes and approaches 100% of type 2 patients among Pima Indians or Pacific Islanders from Nauru or Samoa.
